A Day In Germany 1945, World War II. In Color, Sound Added, Spectacular Footage

- Excellent film of Germany in April 1945 during the end of WWII. This film footage is very rare and extremely high quality. Nordhausen appears in the film. Several women are wearing patches with the letter 'P' noting Polish.

- B&W Video Source from: Douglas Hackney. B&W Video Provenance: Several high definition film transfers from the National Archives and Records Administration were obtained by Douglas Hackney. -> The project was part of his family history reseach on Hackney's grandfather, Zane L. Strickland who appears in one of the Nordhausen films carrying a stretcher with a liberated prisoner.

- Video commenter: The footage at 1:25 to 1:47, and 5:50 to 06:05, was taken during fighting in the city of Osterode, on the west side of the Harz Mountains in central Germany. The Stuart light tank in the 2nd footage was destroyed by the german 88mm gun in the 1st footage. The 88 was abandoned by its crew. The Stuart was knocked out at the old Schützenhaus in the Alte Northeimer Straße (old Northeimer street).
I got the information from 2 books: "The battle of the Harz 1945" & "The end of the war in Osterode am Harz-April 1945". You can also find some of the original footage on YouTube. CriticalPast has uploaded some of the same footage only in black & white and indicating the location & Division with the actual date it was filmed. - Ed.

7th Army in the Rhineland campaign in early 1945. Crossing a border they were spotted by German 88s and almost met their maker. Then it was the Dachau liberation and time served in the army of occupation. Battle fatigue with some recovery in southern France.
