After the first Bush/Gore debate, I honestly thought the campaign was over. Yes, Gore was boring. But Bush was so incompetent, so uninformed, so seemingly deliberately ignorant, I could not fathom how he had gotten the GOP nod. I had absolutely no question about who won that debate. Gore won by hundreds of miles.
The next morning I awoke and drove to work. On the way, on NPR, I heard everyone talking about how Bush won, how he was so likable, just an average guy, someone you could have a beer with.
On NPR!
In 2004 the results of the Bush/Kerry results were much the same, except that Bush was a bit more up on his game. Kerry wasn't as slow and sonorous as Gore had been, but the right wing had done a good job of tagging him as 'Lurch' from the Adams family, so in my view the results from those debates weren't as crystal clear. Still, I thought Kerry won.
Next morning, again, talk of what a debates blockbuster Bush43 was on every channel, radio and TV.
There is no liberal media bias. What the extreme right screams about as liberal bias is very infrequent moderate POVs. Nothing else is allowed to survive on national media.
