(1,532 posts)You're free to communicate in those groups as long as your posts aren't insulting or offensive. And "cohesive" is not a word I would use to describe DU.
FYI, there are many DU members who are not Americans.

(122 posts)Nationality does not have to equal ethnicity. In short the reason these groups exist is because each of these groups have vibrant sub-cultures, traditions, and concerns. While most of us here on DU are American not all of us have the same experiences in this country. From what I understand all of the groups are open to the people that identify with them and those interested in that group and it's culture so long as there is respect shown for their space.

(3,384 posts)so why separate one self even further when we are supposed to be coming together? I think "COEXIST" bumper stickers are wonderful and positive FOR THE NATION, but this is D.U., a subscriber based news and info site where people COME TO, not just seen when driving around in one's vehicle. Aren't we all supposed to be a part of the same agenda? The Democratic Underground, not the "Ethnicity-American Underground" ?

For others it may be "Gender & Orientation";
Home & Family;
Religion & Spirituality;
