by Umberto Eco.

Been avoiding it for years, although I've a fan of _Illuminatus_ since about 1980...no rush, I guess.

For our natural history book club.

Wonderful small book packed with fascinating info and history of culture changing seeds.

Now must take a reading break to get holiday stuff done. But going to get Leopard by Nesbo as soon as I can.

I just finished 11/22/63, and went directly into Under the Dome. This leaves a big hole in the middle of my Stephen King reading. I've read most of his first 7 or 8 books...Carrie/Shining/Stand/It, etc...up to about the Dark Tower, which I never started. And then I've read his two most recent.

by Kim Stanley Robinson last night, and the next thing I knew it was four AM --that is how engrossing it is! Robinson is very well informed about the science of global warming and his characters are well rounded and interesting . I especially like Charley, the "Mr Mom" guy.

I am sure this book just keeps getting better, and it is the first book in a trilogy YEA!!! I have read other books by him and they are ALL fabulous

I'm about 1/3 of the way through. It's drudgery. I can only read 3-4 pages before I feel like putting it down to go clean the cat litter box or sort all my old credit card receipts or something. It may be September before I finish it.

at Bouchercon in San Francisco that had Eisler, Gayle Lynds, SJ Rozan and Mark Billingham (for the British POV) entitled "Who's afraid of Glenn Beck: Are liberals out in the cold with the current kingmaker of thrillers?" A very, very interesting hour from four liberal authors writing thrillers. Eisler has written on-line pretty extensively--and directly addresses in his books torture in particular. It did make the last 20% of "Inside Out" go clunk--break neck thriller comes to a standstill for an anti-torture sermon--but he managed to work things into the plot better in the most recent one. (Those pages would have been great if taken out of the story as an essay appendix...though if you read him on-line you'll find the same material.)

John Rain is a marvelous character. Ben Treven, his other series character, is fun but less complex.
