You can't read all day if you don't start in the morning
I'm reading The Guide by Peter Heller, "a heart-racing thriller about a young man who is hired by an elite fishing lodge in Colorado, where he uncovers a plot of shocking menace amid the natural beauty of sun-drenched streams and forests." Lovely prose, keeps you just drifting along, like a boat on a river. So far...
I'm listening to The Mirror & The Light by Hilary Mantel. This is the final book of the Anne Boleyn trilogy and it's not being read, it's being performed. It's marvelous. We are there with Thomas Cromwell in his final years as he climbs to the heights of power in 1500's England. The "problem" with this is it's 38 hours long, requiring a LOT of listening.
What are you spending your days reading, or listening to?

"A mesmerizing thriller that gives a wicked new twist to the doctor-patient relationship, The Analyst weaves a blistering race against time with a tale of identities shattered and chosen, disguises taken and discarded."
Will definitely be checking this author out. Thanks.

(119,931 posts)mystery series featuring 350 year-old alchemist Zoe Faust, and her partner in crime-solving, 160+ year-old accidentally alchemically alive gargoyle Dorian Robert-Houdin, a gourmet chef who sees himself as a counterpart to Poirot. This one involves a history of family secrets and dynamics, rare teas, punk rockers, and monster plants that may, or may not, be living monsters.
"An Unexpected Peril", by Deanna Raybourn, part of the Veronica Speedwell (some will get it) series. England,1896, Veronica and her partner Stoker are involved in the suspected murder of a famous woman alpinist, important treaties, imoersonating royal personages, secret loves, and the battle for women's suffrage. I just started the book.
By the way, I WANT THAT BEDROOM!!!
That looks sooo comfy.
Ms. Pandian seems worth looking into. 22 novels: mysteries and cozies. Lots of awards and high ratings.

(4,512 posts)Its about a married Hollywood socialite in the 1920s when shes quarantined in a leper colony in Carville, LA. So far, its quite good.
I finished Welcome to Beach Town by Susan Wiggs earlier this week. Parts of it resonated as I was born and raised in a beach town, and have lived in many others throughout my life, albeit in FL not CA. It was okay, but I got tired of the description of losing oneself while surfing 🏄.
I have The Guide on my TBR list. I hope you continue to enjoy it,

(22,722 posts)I am about to find out what really happened in Vegas. (Just started it; this week was mostly taken up with a big fundraiser for the county Democratic Party.)
This has turned out to be a fun series; I'm looking forward to all the rest of the books
Kat has never been a morning person, but waking up in a Vegas hospital to discover she's been married, widowed, and pulled from the rubble of a collapsed building along with a gorgeous amnesic vampire with the unlikely name of Jonny B. Good pretty much cements her hatred of mornings. In fact, having no memory of any of these events almost seems like a blessing.
While waiting to be cleared for possible involvement in the destruction of the hotel she'd been pulled from, Kat agrees to try to use her newly discovered psychic ability to help hunky detective Damian Johnson look into the mysterious events surrounding his comatose ex-partner.
With lycan youths turning up dead, terrifying visions from Damian's coma-stricken partner, horrific creatures attempting to grab her in the night, and dealing with Jonny's bizarre obsession with the Food Network, Kat just hopes she survives long enough to say goodbye to Las Vegas.
I finished "Bad Day at The Vulture CLub" (a baby Ganesha mystery) by Vaseem Khan.
