(4,196 posts)I usually mention one or two cartoons that i especially liked. Today, however, I'm taking the liberty of pointing out one I DIDN'T like -- the Ben Garrison cartoon of Jack Smith as the Inquisition. Ben Garrison is apparently a right-wing cartoonist (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Garrison).

And to be honest there was something I didn't like about it but couldn't put my finger on,
anyway it's gone to keep peace in the family. Thanks for your input. You aware I'm also
a '70s era vet? (71-73, 11B)

(4,196 posts)What is 11B?
I was Navy, 73-77. I wanted to join the service because I was just floundering. I joined the Navy, figuring it would keep me out of the jungles.
I'm always surprised by how many veterans are on DU!
Thanks for the cartoons. I always look forward to those.

(19,632 posts)I only spent 2 weeks as a grunt in a Mechanized Infantry unit, volunteered for C Co motor pool
mechanic which lasted about 2 months and then the Battalion Motor Pool Officer "drafted"
me into Battalion Maintenance exempt from KP & guard duty because he wanted me in the
motor pool everyday. Got my own M578 wrecker on tracks to drive to repair M113s that broke
down. Lost all my military pictures but here's a M578 painted just like we painted mine.

(4,728 posts)Koko was a mountain gorilla born in captivity. She learned sign language and understood about 2,000 words of spoken English.
Koko adopted a kitten and named it All Ball. A famous Nat Geo cover showed the massive ape cuddling the kitten.
At one point, she got mad at a human staffer and cussed him out in sign language: "you stinking green shit".
An ape which can name and cuddle a pet and create her own cuss-out is superior to an awful lot of humans.

"Koko also met and interacted with a variety of celebrities including Robin Williams, Fred Rogers, Betty White, William Shatner, Flea, Leonardo DiCaprio, Peter Gabriel, and Sting."

(19,632 posts)The former US vice-presidential candidate and ex-Alaska governor inadvertently revealed that she
had written the words "energy", "budget cuts", and "lift American spirit" on her palm. The word
"budget" had been crossed out and replaced with "tax".
