Pete the peacock, adored by Las Vegas neighborhood, fatally shot by bow and arrow

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A beloved Las Vegas neighborhood peacock named Pete was killed with a hunter’s bow and arrow, and authorities are trying to find who was behind it.

Animal Protection Services officers are investigating the death of the peacock, which belonged to a resident in a small gated neighborhood but had come to be accepted as the neighborhood pet throughout the years.

Felicity Carter, a neighbor, said she found the bird Monday against a fence with an arrow sticking out of him. She wrapped Pete in a blanket and, with the help of other neighbors, took him to a veterinarian who specializes in exotic pets.

She said the staff rushed to treat him, even looking into getting a blood transfusion from another peacock. But they found Pete had actually been shot twice.

and my roosters only crowed during the day. peacocks scream like babies being eaten in the middle of the night.
pretty sure most of the grudge holders hated me more than the birds.
yes, assholes who cant live and let live. if that had ever happened to 1 of my boys, i’d have had their guts for garters.

Peacocks are very noisy so I’m sure more than one neighbor had it in for the bird.

I wonder if it will be worth it to the archer when he gets caught.

He shot the poor creature twice and left it to suffer and slowly die.

The peacock was a neighborhood pet and his killing will be felt by many there. It is traumatizing to know a beautiful creature suffered because of a kook.
$1000 is a slap on the wrist. Mandatory jail time should be added.

If he just shot him with a gun, and he'd get caught.

My Grandmother kept a male peacock, and yes--they can be quite loud. But I think its a cool sound, and I don't remember her's ever sounding off except early morning. I'd lay in bed and listen to the peacock, the bobwhites, and the mourning doves, while the scent of the towering South Carolina pines wafted in the open window. Its a great memory.

I truly hate some people....
