Carlos Rodón of the White Sox pitches no-hitter after coming agonizingly close to perfection

Carlos Rodón came excruciatingly close to a perfect game. Coming away with a no-hitter, though, helped the Chicago White Sox pitcher feel pretty good about his evening.

“That was awesome, a full team effort,” Rodón said Wednesday in an on-field interview. “I can’t believe it.”

Mowing down Cleveland Indians batters in an 8-0 White Sox win, Rodón threw the second no-hitter of the MLB season. His bid for the first perfect game since 2012 ended with one out in the ninth, when he hit Cleveland’s Roberto Pérez on the foot with a pitch.

The 28-year-old left-hander proceeded to get the next two batters out before being mobbed by Chicago teammates in a joyous celebration near the mound.

It was such a shame that Rodon hit that batter in he foot. But he steeled himself and went on.
