Turn down the lights, slap on the headphones, and get ready to get the crap scared outta ya.
And if you've played Bioshock, this will all be familiar territory. The graphics may be a bit dated, but I still think SS2 was the superior game.

(8,040 posts)GOG usually makes it so we can play these old games on new OS. I assume they did it with this. I have system shock 2 but I haven't been able to play it on anything in years. Can't wait.

(4,586 posts)And the GoG version of SS2 is compatible with the mods that enhance textures and models, it seems.
Might require a bit of tweaking, it'll be so worth it.

(4,586 posts)Preliminary report:
Runs on Windows 7 without flaws so far.
Loads amazingly fast.
Support to my laptop's native resolution of (are you ready for this?) 1680 x 1050.
Haven't installed any of the new texture/models mods, though.

(4,586 posts)First thing I do is walk into the main Med-Sci area and get jumped by two...TWO hybrids. They made quick work of me.
Game's harder than I remember.

(12,041 posts)Games today are not nearly as difficult as they were in the past, going back and playing some of the old classics quickly reminds you of that.

(4,586 posts)He played an OSA, got the psi power that turns your amp into a weapon, then the psi power that adds your PSI to your STR.
Combined that with the overhead smash upgrade and he could one-shot rumblers.
He has a knack for finding these kinds of combos in games.
He also was able to use the PSI power to transform ammo and hypos into nanites, then hacked a vending machine and went into the final game with nearly 100 psi hypos.
I am attempting to recreate his strategy.

(4,640 posts)SS2 hates multi-core processors and will freeze up after a couple of seconds unless you force it on to a single core.

(8,040 posts)I own it already, but I haven't been able to play it since my old win 95 comp so long ago....

(12,041 posts)I loved System Shock 2, it is the best first person shooter of all time. Bioshock was great too, but System Shock 2 had far deeper gameplay. It is sad that so few people played it, everyone knows Bioshock but very few seem to know about System Shock even though it was the better game. I hope that some day System Shock 3 can finally become reality, it has been far too many years.

(12,041 posts)I thought Dead Space was a very good game, but I am glad they changed the title because it was not System Shock. I do see the similarities between the two games, but System Shock was not a third person action game and us System Shock fans would have been very disappointed to see the series turned into that even if it was still a good game.
Hopefully the fact that they previously were invested in making a System Shock 3 but only changed the title when it became clear they were not going to be true to the original is a good sign that there may be interest in bringing the license back. Hopefully this re-release on PC along with the coming release of BioShock Infinite will revive interest in the franchise and a real sequel can finally happen. If they could get Warren Spector on the team then I would be in heaven.
