Rory McIlroy PGA Tour - PS4 - Review
I've been playing this for a few days now... I really wanted to at least give it a shot before I vented... Lets do this one a little different and start with...
The Bottom Line - There is so fuckin much to love about this game... It can play like a dream. I love the tweaks to swinging the club, from fade & draw to driving to chipping to putting, it is so very wicked sweet all around. The graphics are top notch and the reduced load time is long over do, it's almost tolerable. It is such a wicked shame that they were unable to get anything else even close to acceptable... This is one big mess of a game. I suppose they might fix some of the issues eventually but this game is so lacking I recommend staying away until they do.
So... Whats this games problems... Fuck... Where to begin...
Stats - Forget it, nothing to see here, move along. Stats have been stripped down to bare bones... And your online stats are only visible if you have a friend who plays or you are in the top hundred... WTF? Unforgivable.
Online - I'm interested in playing ranked games and want a leader board for it... This is not really asking very much I don't think. There is a button to join ranked games... You press it and you are auto-magically taken to a game with up to three other players. You can vote on one of two options, each is 9 holes of a course (and there are not many courses... 13 I think but we'll get to that) and you get to vote for one of them. All conditions are random so check before you vote. No other options are available for you to actually select... Can't make it the whole course or select the tee... Nothing. They also changed the way they handle disconnects, so you have no idea how often someone disconnects so you can avoid playing with them... Not that it matters much because there is no way to kick a player... Sheesh. The 'disconnecter' is punished by getting an auto 3 losses and everyone who stays gets a win but there is also currently a bug where:
4 players start game
1 player disconnects - Gets 0 wins and 3 losses
2nd player disconnects - Gets 1 win and 2 losses
3rd players disconnects - Gets 2 wins and 1 loss
Last player left - Gets kicked to the main menu and gets 0 wins and 0 losses... This shit has happened to me a number of times now.
Needless to say, disconnecting is rampant.
Courses - A total of 9 real world courses and 4 'fantasy' courses. No, really... Thats it. I kind of assume they will release more but I can't find anything where they actually say they are going to do that... The closest I've found is a statement about Augusta (not included) about how they did not get it but that it might appear as DLC... So they kind of suggest there will be courses as DLC. There is not however, any specifics of what courses, when they will be available or how much they will cost.
Menus - Whoever approved these should leave the industry in shame and never be allowed to approve the design of another thing... Only for the betterment of humanity.... But seriously, they are shit... Good luck finding things... FFS, they have the audio controls under "Extras", I shit you not.
Crashes - Oh... Did I forget to mention the game crashes on a regular basis?
You want to know whats really fucked up? I know they won't fix a thing... They will charge me a bunch when they finally decide to release more course... I'll buy them all day one... And I'm loading up my vaporizer right now with some really nice Sour Strawberry in preparation to play all night again tonight.
Sheesh... Fuck you EA.
