We have been traveling in Mexico and have used this site for most of our stops.
airbnb is a site where individuals homeowners rent space for a night, a week or longer.
You have the option of sharing a room with others, taking a private room in someone's home or renting a space that is independent of the homeowner.
Each and every place we have stayed has been unique and consistently wonderful. You can generally have as much privacy or interaction as you want. The prices are great and they tell you exactly how much they are taking as their commission.
The site is really well designed and the way they handle the fund transfers works for everyone.
We have had the opportunity to meet some great people and stay in some really unique places.
If you are planning a trip, check it out. It's exactly the kind of site that is worth supporting, imo.
