One of my favorite places in New Orleans
If you go to NOLA and have a chance to venture away from the quarter and downtown areas, don't miss making a trip out to the terminal at Lakefront airport. It's about a 20 minute drive from downtown. This airport only serves general aviation, so you can't get a commercial flight in and out of here, but it's where I fly into when I go here. For me it's convenient, but it's still worth making the trip out here if you have the time. The terminal is one of the few remaining Art Deco terminals left in the US and has been wonderfully restored to it's original condition after Katrina. Going to this place is like making a time warp back to the 1930's.
Go to Messinas Runway Cafe and ask for a table next to the window facing the ramp. There's only a few of these, so if they are busy, you might have to wait, but it's worth it as you'll get to see the aircraft coming and going. The food is excellent and the prices are reasonable for what you get.
