Among these, those that stand out in particular are those relative to the difference and harmony between male and female identities and sexual inclinations.”

Translation: The Catholic hierarchy is acknowledging that the church needs to update its understanding of the science of sex and gender, and that also means updating the church’s theology on sexuality and its ministry to gay people.

2. Actually, it reads to me like the usual punt play.

The Church couldn't convert, was too far for a field goal attempt, so they punt the ball to the other team.

Of course, there could be information in the article at the link that justifies your optimism. But, if so, you didn't include that in your excerpt, for some reason.

ETA: After reviewing the entire article, the ruling on the field stands. Punt. Maybe they'll do better during their next possession.
