The district adjacent to mine in Minnesota is sending a young Muslim, Ilhan Omar, woman to Congress. She wears a variety of headgear as a normal part of her wardrobe. I met her recently and briefly, and can say that she is disarmingly bright and charming. So, perhaps she will do OK, even in a place where Islam is treated as an enemy.

She is very well-spoken, with flawless English, and has a ready smile and a sparkling eye. Politically, she considers herself to be a "Democratic Socialist." She seems certain to bring a new outlook on things into the House chambers.

Then, there is Angie Craig, who beat right-winger Jason Lewis in another district. Openly married to another woman, and with four grown children, she is outspoken, frank, and not someone who suffers fools and idiots gladly. She's an accomplished business person, with healthcare industry experience, and looks to be a great choice as a member of the House.

We're very happy here about our new Freshwomen in Congress! Yes, we are.

I'm looking forward to a picture of Congress in which a woman wearing a hijab can be clearly seen.
