Holy KARMA KICKBACK!!!!!
Some of you may remember around this time last year when I was lied to, bullied, threatened legally and coerced into working 13 hour overnight shifts.
Since that time they've done *nothing* to rectify their situation with nobody except the lowest paid, benefitless per diem (moi) to cover nights when their regular night crew goes on vacation. Oh, but they have managed to protect the harasser, protect the porn addict, protect the alcoholic, and protect the pothead who makes major, major eff-ups but keeps her job by being snitch for sociopathic lab manager. 
Well I was determined to avoid that fate this year, so ever so grateful for my new job which turned up with full time training just in time. I gave them notice of the 2 months of full time training at the beginning of November. Since I'd already committed to working this past Saturday, I agreed to do it even though it meant that between old job and new I'd be working 9 days in a row, with just Sunday off, and then 5 days straight. Made it clear that I'd be very relieved if somebody else would fill in (nobody would) and hoped to get out early if it was quiet.
Well, Saturday night on her way into the lab, the night shift person tripped hard over an incredibly badly placed dolly (I whacked my ankle on it earlier) and ended up in the ER instead of the lab.
They had the effing gall to try to get me to stay until 1am -- a 13+ hour shift doing *all* the qc and beginning of day work followed by an hour's drive through snow and sleet, neglect my babies, sleep all day Sunday, to show up at new job Monday morning, essentially working 15 days nonstop.
"ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!!"
I was out of there at my scheduled time of 10pm. Fire me? See if I care. Sue me? Be my guest. I've made it clear that lab manager is NOT the only one with a lawyer in the family; my middle sister is a litigation attorney, former judge, before that asst DA and oh, btw, has been politically active for over 30 years so is connected. Hates me, but is a sociopath so if I wave $$ at her, she'll be my BFF. BWAH!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA! I gave them notice, so really there isn't a thing they can do except DEAL WITH IT.
I'm moving on with my life....

Just been wondering about 'karma,' not too seriously, but car trouble (NOTHING like your story) complicates things, and daughter just texted could I pick her up from f'ball game: she and her guy of 3-4 years 'falling apart.' Changed her mind, taking cab to get home to her bed. Concerned for her, she if anyone deserves GOOD karma.
