'After prayerful consideration,' KC-area Catholic school kicks boy out to punish his mom
This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by meow2u3 (a host of the Catholicism and Orthodox Christianity group).
Will Muller, a rising sixth grader at St. John LaLande Catholic School in Blue Springs, has been kicked out disenrolled after much prayer, according to a July 19 letter from the principal, Susan Martin. This is not because Will, who is 11, was struggling academically or did anything wrong. On the contrary, hes an A student, said the mother of a classmate, and liked by everybody. My son would say hes the only one who never talks or gets in any trouble. According to the letter, hes being expelled because his parents, Paul and Hollee Muller, have stated both verbally and in writing you do not agree with nor do you support the teachings of the Catholic Church. After prayerful consideration and discussion among our school administration it is obvious we no longer have a partnership with you, since the values of your family are not in alignment with those of our school. Therefore, the school administration has made the decision to disenroll your child from our school. TOP VIDEOS

I am catholic but it's crap like this that goes on all too often for myself to take what the church says with any validity. If there is a hell it is sure to be full of people like these hypocrites

(8,387 posts)Jesus isn't letting everyone into Heaven either. Why should his schools be any different?
Christianity is about "Believe this or suffer (eternal death / Hell / punishment of some kind)."
Jesus says that he'll ultimately tell some collection of people to fuck off:
21 Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name? 23 And then will I declare to them, I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.

Not everybody subscribes to your version of Catholicism.
Just sayin.

(8,387 posts)Pretty sure that Catholic Jesus is still doing this:
https://www.usccb.org/beliefs-and-teachings/what-we-believe
What We Believe
[...]
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
[...]
Jesus certainly believed in Hell and spoke about it on several occasions.
And, more to the point, it is certainly up to this school to decide which sort of Catholics they want to see in it, and what "version" of Catholicism they want to apply to how they run it.

(821 posts)You want to enforce your own fundamentalism on this family.
Need I remind you that this is the Catholic group?

(8,387 posts)I'm an atheist.
This schools wants to enforce its religious beliefs, and since it is a religious school, they have every right to do so.

My wife comes from a Catholic culture, going back centuries.

(8,387 posts)I never understand the outrage over "Religious School Behaves Consistently With Being Religious School".
What is hypocritical or surprising about that?
People send their children to these schools so that their precious children need not come into contact with unbelievers.
What is so hard to grasp about that?

Welcome to the Catholic & Orthodox Group. This is a safe haven group where discussions about Catholicism and Orthodoxy take place in a forum free from gratuitous attacks or derision of religion and religious beliefs. There are other places for those who really like to do that. Our focus is on the beliefs and traditions of Catholicism and Orthodoxy. For the rest, welcome, and pax vobiscum. Peace be among you.
Constructive criticism of the politics of the Catholic hierarchy is permitted, but no incendiary attacks on the Catholic and/or Orthodox faiths will be tolerated.
Thanks for your cooperation.

If you join a club and break their rules you get booted out. Churches are clubs.

(57,527 posts)Back in the day, some protestant parents would send their kids to the local Catholic School because
it was excellent and the kids graduating from there got good college scholarships.
But the parents didn't fight with the school. They kept a low profile.

(18,878 posts)We had many non Catholic kids in my class. Parents definitely were other religions or none. My school never would have kicked out any student for this reason. Ever! This is just a dumb principal.

(62,657 posts)He came in guns blazing, banning books and dissent as well.
Hollee was vice president of the schools advisory board, and she objected to changes at the school since Father Sean McCaffery became pastor of the parish a year ago.
New priest yanked library books, banned Duolingo app
The priest came rolling in hot, Hollee said, yanking books from the school library, including one about a polar bear with two mommies and all of Rick Riordans work, some of which features characters who are gay, bisexual, lesbian and trans.
As Hollee herself sums up her supposed heresy, I dont think being blatantly homophobic is a teaching of the Catholic Church.

Might be pro-choice which many Catholics support and almost all of them are still allowed Holy Communion.

Im shocked at some of the narrow-minded and bigoted responses to this article on a supposedly Democratic website (in the Catholic group, of all places).
As Democrats, we should all be supporting this family, regardless of our cultures and religions.

(8,387 posts)If someone gets kicked out of the local country club because the club requires jackets in the dining room and someone is not wearing a jacket in the dining room, why is that a concern of mine?
This family is paying cash money to an organization which puts a lot of effort into fighting against the rights of other people, and paying settlements for child molesters. I guess those other people and victims don't matter, but I don't support that organization.

(16,276 posts)because her parents had gotten divorced and she was being raised by a single mother...
Never mind my mother has been baptised and was nominally Catholic, because her father was Catholic, and my grandmother was trying to honor and continue that by her choice of schools, despite being a rather irreligious nominally Methodist herself.
How dare my grandmother divorce her abusive alcoholic adulterous Catholic husband and raise two kids on her own by working three jobs with just a high school education? No Catholic school for your kids!
