I believe this was the CIA or some other rogue intelligence agency running a 'live" test, so to speak...

CIA DUDE#1 - "Hey Carl - think we can get these people to voluntarily hurt themselves and their friends and family"?

CIA DUDE#2 - "Why? What purpose?"

DUDE #1 "let's see if we can expand on the Milgram effect...might be helpful down the road"..

DUDE# 2", OK, what's the plan?"

DUDE# 1 "We'll create this bogus fundraiser where we tell people to dump ice cold buckets of water on their heads, and their kids heads, all to support a charity!"

DUDE# 2 "That's crazy...who would be dumb enough to pour a bucket of ice water on their kids heads?"

And here we are...

In Neuromuscular diseases, quickly chilling the tissue can temporarily abate some symptoms.

Putting an affected arm in an ice bath for a short time can decrease symptoms for a short while. It's sort of an "Old School" diagnostic test, one of many that _may_ indicate something.

Before my MG was finally diagnosed, I noticed that I could eat ice cream without choking, unlike warm foods.

Thank The FSM for an otolaryngologist that said "This sounds like it's more neurological. Let me go check something out my computer."
