Have an umbrella handy as the D.C. region is expected to receive showers and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service has put the following areas under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m.

• D.C.
• Maryland, including the areas of Anne Arundel, Calvert, Carroll, Cecil, Charles, Frederick, Montgomery, Prince Georges, St. Mary’s, Harford and Baltimore.
• Virginia, including the areas of Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria, Fairfax, Manassas, Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William and Stafford.
