No on Marsy's Law group to hold panel

A group opposing a so-called victim’s rights amendment in South Dakota will hold a discussion session called “Accurate Information on Amendment S” on Thursday.

The group “South Dakotans Voting No On Amendment S” says the ballot question, commonly referred to as Marsy’s Law, will water down victims’ services in the state by overburdening local prosecutors’ offices.

The panel is an attempt to counteract what it calls a bombardment of Marsy’s Law advertising “financed by a California billionaire that are full of misleading information and fear tactics,” according to the group’s Facebook page.

Supporters of Marsy's Law say South Dakota lags behind 32 states that already have victim's rights in their constitution, and that fears about fewer services to victims haven't materialized.
