(18,577 posts)except the Supreme Court, where it is effectively already gone.
If any of his nominees fail, it will be because Republicans don't like him.

(1,273 posts)the filibuster for nominees is gone. They would have to make a rules change to bring it back, and that takes large super majorities to do. It's not coming back anytime soon.

(18,577 posts)unless the majority takes affirmative action to change them. The rules can be changed back to pre-2013 at the beginning of the session, but such a move of unilateral disarmament would be illogical and only benefit Senate Democrats.
It is doubtful that the legislative filibuster will be felled this term, but it is already dead for appointments.

(24,680 posts)Trump played this right, though: get a batch of the most extreme toxic nominees possible, let the outrage focus on a handful of the worst of the lot, replace them with highly-visible "compromise" nominees. meanwhile, most of the assholes fly through confirmation under the radar. 3 months from now, Trump goes before his supporters and brags about how he made a Great Deal and got 90% of what he asked for.
so who do you want to be sacrificed to our selective outrage?
