Michael Sam Set To Sign With Dallas Cowboys' Practice Squad, Pending Physical: REPORTS
Michael Sam might not be without an NFL team for long. The Dallas Cowboys plan to bring in Sam, the first openly gay player ever to be drafted into the NFL, for a physical on Wednesday with the intention of signing him to their practice squad, according to multiple reports.
Hats off to the Cowboys for giving Michael Sam a chance. I think Sam has skills and just needs the chance to prove himself.

(230,605 posts)Though I rooted for the Cowboys when I was a kid since my Dad was a Roger Staubach fan.

(230,605 posts)And Roger was in the Navy, too, could have backed out on his obligation to the Navy, but he didn't, finished his duty to the Navy and probably lost some well paid playing years. At least that's what my Dad told me, think that was a big reason for his admiration. So we always rooted for Dallas...

(9,416 posts)Maybe they are trying to give him room and time to grow. Someone at DU said Michael Sam is a good player, but can get better. They (the DUer) seemed to say being on a practice squad would give Sam the time he needed to grow.

(9,416 posts)Jerry Jones is the team owner, president, and GM. ESPN's Outside the Lines did a story on Jones. They talked about his time as the owner and GM of the Dallas Cowboy. During the story a Jerry Jones business card was shown. The card said, Owner, President, and General Manger.

(29,832 posts)Jerry Jones has effectively destroyed the Cowboys. I'm pleased for Michael Sam's career advancement, but that doesn't mean I'll start watching the Cowboys again.

(1,278 posts)The Rams were loaded at that position. He could help the Dallas Cowboys as they need defensive help in the worst way. Romo is not getting any younger, and their time in the spotlight is fading with no one to carry the torch.
BTW, Dale Hansen of WFAA/abc8 and longtime sportscaster may have a bit to do with this:

(11,209 posts)because I just don't like football.
However, I'll stop smart mouthing the Cowboys and their fans (the ones who don't display their red necks) for the year.
If they actually put Sam on roster and start him . . . hell, I guess I might have to watch a game or two and actually pay attention. It might even make me like the sport.
Too few things to be proud of about my state these days.
