Watch: Soccer Star Megan Rapinoe Speaks Out for GLSEN's Changing the Game Campaign

Out U.S. Women's National Soccer Team player Megan Rapinoe has joined GLSEN's (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) Changing the Game: The GLSEN Sports Project to help create a safe environment for kids who fall under all sexual orientations and gender identity / expressions to participate in athletics and physical education.

Rapinoe (or Pinoe as her shippers refer to her) came out prior to the Olympics in Out magazine last summer, and the midfielder has since been honored by the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center for her visibility. Plus, she was voted SheWired's Woman of the Year by our readers.

In a video for GLSEN's Think Before You Speak campaign Rapinoe discusses the importance of language, especially within the sports world.

"It's about using negative and hurtful language, and I think it has been pretty prominent around sports," Rapinoe says about the campaign.

There can be a lot of that in sports, or at least in male sports (being male I haven't spent a lot of time in female sports). Although having relatively recently taken up training gymnastics where the athlete make up is usually 70-30 of 60-40 women to men, I haven't heard any sexist language.

The other group I train with (for a martial art) has told some people to be more careful with their language and for those who couldn't they've gotten the boot.
