Gun culture holding us hostage

We are being held hostage.

Guess what? In this gun culture nation, most Americans don't own a gun.

The numbers are out. There are 300 million guns out there. But according to a recent Harvard-Northeastern survey, 78 percent of adults in this country do not own a gun. Half the guns in private hands are owned by 19 percent of adults. Three percent own the rest.

There were 372 mass shootings in 2015. resulting in 475 deaths and 1,870 people injured. Excluding suicides, 13,286 people died of gunshot last year. We have more mass shootings, more people per 100,000 dead and injured than virtually every country on this planet. Excluding war zones, we rank 11th in firearm deaths. Even Mexico has a lower rate than we do. We also have the highest number of privately owned guns — 112 per 100 residents.

Closing statement from the article: Bottom line? Ninety-seven percent of us are being held hostage by a misinterpretation of the Constitution, pushed by the 3 percent who want lots of guns and the National Rifle Association.

The NRA, speaking for the right-wing, blood sucking gun lobby, spreads fear and preaches violence under the guise of "self protection" and it's erroneous interpretation of the Second Amendment.

Just like Citizens United (created by the same SCOTUS 5-4 gang-of-five as Heller), the citizens of the United States are being swindled out of their rights to be heard at the ballot box.

We need guns for self defense.

From who?

People with guns.

Let's make it harder to get guns.

So you want to take my guns away!

Suppressors are to protect your hearing.

Well, actually they don't reduce noise enough to protect your hearing. A $20 over the ear protector works better than a $500 suppressor.

What? I didn't hear that . . .

More guns means less gun violence.

That doesn't make sense on its face. Put more cars on a freeway and there are more car accidents. Put more swimming pools in a community there are more drownings. Besides by EVERY SINGLE MEASUREMENT there is a correlation between the number of guns and the number of homicides and suicides.

So you're coming to take my guns away!

Obama's going to take our guns away!

Well he better get right on that, he's only got three months left.

Hillary's going to take our guns away!
