Okay, this wasn't the year to break the NRA's back. At least not at the federal level.

The NRA bet heavily on six races and won five of them at the national level. Only bright spot there is it cost them a hell of a lot and if this is any indication of what's to come that back will be considerably weaker as time goes by.

On the other hand at the state level gun control won three of four state referendums. When people vote on gun control we win.

Maine failed to pass a universal background check law. The NRA managed to scare voters with the old saw of 'can't even let a friend hold your gun without a background check' lie. Can't let a friend borrow a gun at hunting camp without a background check.

Yeah. And speed limit signs mean you get ticketed for driving 56 in a 55. Every time. And your car is impounded.

A $500 suppressor will save your hearing. They know cause the gun makers told them so. Actually all it does is make the gun a few inches longer which seems to be important to them and make the gun makers richer.

More guns means less death. So why does increased traffic mean more car accidents?

It is increasingly clear that working at the state level is the way to go.

It is good to hear some good news on guns.

That is one of the reasons I was most upset.
This loss,I felt was a big step backwards.

2. Take heart. While the gun lobby seems to have a strangle hold on DC

they don't do so well in local referendums. When proposals are put before the voters directly they tend to get more traction. In fact, they almost always win and attempts to overturn them have met with pretty dismal results.
