More than 35 years ago my black (I loath mentioning race because we are all part of one race a far as I'm concerned, the human race) husband, toddler son and I were at a restaurant having dinner. We'd just moved from the DC area to a almost all white area out west. A family in the restaurant were having a birthday party for their little boy and I noticed them glancing our way. Then, to my surprise, the mother got up and came to our table with a slice of her son's birthday cake for our little boy!

It warmed the cockles of my heart.
