(82 posts)Many years ago when my husband was diagnosed with Type 1 his specialist had done some research and believed that a virus can be the cause of development of Type 1. My husband had just had the measles and the doctor firmly believed that was the cause. This would have been over 60 years ago.

(10,889 posts)Diabetes Type 1 is an entirely separate disease from Type 2 and is usually the result of some viral illness destroying pancreatic function. It can be as simple as a cold or as vicious as the measles or Covid.
