Overweight and obesity are major public health problems for adults and children in the US, and the Tri-State Community is no exception. In fact, the rates of overweight and obesity for West Virginia and surrounding states are higher than the national average. Health problems related to obesity in children and adolescents, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol, often continue into adulthood. The result is a poor quality of life and an increased risk for premature death during adulthood. Huntington's Kitchen was established to help our community tackle these problems through education, and help children, teens and adults enjoy the quality of life they deserve."

"Huntington's Kitchen in downtown Huntington, WV was originally established as "Jamie's Kitchen" during the television production of Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, Season 1. Jamie saw his vision come to life as a warm and welcoming environment, where people from the community could gather to learn to cook with fresh, wholesome ingredients. When filming wrapped, he wanted the kitchen to remain open to the public, to further his mission of bringing healthy cooking skills back to the people of Huntington.
That's when local non-profit health care provider Ebenezer Medical Outreach, Inc. (EMO) stepped in to oversee operations of the kitchen, which was supported financially by Cabell Huntington Hospital. EMO managed Huntington’s Kitchen for three years and, with financial support from the hospital totaling more than a quarter of a million dollars over those years, was able to provide hundreds of cooking classes to well over a thousand local residents.".....(more at link)
