Former Las Vegas Aces player sues team, WNBA for alleged discrimination
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Former Las Vegas Aces forward Dearica Hamby is suing the team and the WNBA, alleging she faced discrimination for becoming pregnant.
Attorneys for Hamby said they filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for Nevada on Monday alleging the Aces retaliated against her for her pregnancy in 2022 and 2023, leading to a trade to the Los Angeles Sparks.
Benefits provided on top of her player contract were rescinded after Hamby announced her pregnancy, the suit alleges, and head coach Becky Hammon questioned her commitment to the team days before Hamby was traded.
The WNBA investigated Hamby's allegations and ultimately suspended Hammon for two games and forced the Aces to forfeit a 2025 first-round draft pick.
