NBA expected to quickly approve Clippers sale to Ballmer

The NBA's Board of Governors is expected to approve the sale of the Los Angeles Clippers to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer quickly after the transaction from Shelly Sterling to Ballmer is complete, a person familiar with details of the sale told USA TODAY Sports.

The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly until the sale is finalized.

With Shelly Sterling and Ballmer targeting Aug. 15 to complete the deal, it's likely Ballmer takes control of the Clippers within the next few weeks – a move that would please the NBA, Clippers coach Doc Rivers, players and fans.

On Monday, Judge Michael Levanas delivered an "oral tentative statement decision" that confirmed Shelly Sterling had the authority to reach an agreement in May to sell the Clippers Steve Ballmer.
