(62,325 posts)they KNEW would be political death in their campaigns. They then use the losers to vote while they can, without having anything left to risk.
The Lame Duck period is the most fertile period to get legislation through that is the most unpopular with their bases. Some have nothing to lose, and they allow a few others, probably just enough to get the legislation passed, hoping that voters will forget their betrayal in their next elections.
So iow, Begich was a perfect choice to vote FOR the Pipeline. HE will be okay, most likely rewarded for his vote by his corporate buddies.
The whole system is so corrupt, it's hard to know where to begin to even try to fix it.
I would not be surprised if the Chained CPI is 'back on the table' during this period.

(3,366 posts)I don't know how she manages to fool so many into thinking she's anything but a DINO.
My collection of McCaskill's pro-Repuke positions:
She voted for everything George Bush put in front of her... war, more war, Patriot Act, increased spending, bailing out the banks, etc. Then, after Obama got elected and people started clamoring for jobs, but the Repugs were now oh-so-worried about the deficit, she had this to say: "Jobs are important, but we have to worry about the deficit" -- the deficit she helped drive up! I could not find a link for this quote, but I =heard= her say that, and it infuriated me.
So what did our darling propose to do about the deficit?...
"McCaskill introduced on Tuesday anti-deficit legislation that could impose automatic cuts in Social Security and other entitlement programs. McCaskill, of Missouri, was the only Democrat to join with a group of Republicans to press for a far-reaching debt reduction plan that would tie federal spending to the nation's economic ouput. McCaskill is a chief sponsor with Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn. No Democrat other than McCaskill has stepped forward to support the plan, suggesting that it could encounter stiff opposition in the Democratic-run Senate. Politicians typically shy away from proposals to cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid because of the backlash that arrives from all directions."

She voted to approve Mukasey, cuz she voted for everything George Bush wanted.
A quote from 2010, illustrating that shes no Democrat:
"I voted against my party with some frequency, because of my independence. I've just got to remind Missourians that I am independent and that I try to call them like I see them, and sometimes my party is wrong on some things."

In the wake of moveon.orgs ad condemning General Betray Us, McCaskill was one of 22 Democratic Senators and 49 Republicans who voted in support of Repuglican Cornyn's amendment to "strongly condemn personal attacks on the honor and integrity of General Petraeus." Even Hillary Clinton voted against that bit of pandering nonsense. Petraeus later resigned in disgrace.

It is a huge distraction to argue that this war we are in, is between Democrats and Republicans. This vote should end that thinking.
This class war is between Conservatives and Non-Conservatives. And any conservative can identify themself as a Democrat.

(16,916 posts)those Dems lost or retired their seats in the last election. The vote has already happened, The good guys won.
My point is, the conservadems that will still be in their Senate seats come January will be enough to get the GOP to a veto proof majority.
There's no doubt that the GOP controlled Senate will put it up for a vote again when they have more seats. The only reason they even bothered to have a vote right now was to hail mary save Landrieu's seat for the run off election.

(62,325 posts)in the first place. Whenever a good Progressive runs against these Dinos, the Party Leadership supports the Dino. There must be some way to fight this money. THAT imo, is the most important issue that needs to be addressed.

(62,325 posts)But they will always have their enablers so that won't happen. That blind loyalty is the real problem.
The party has lost so much of its membership over the past decade or so. Only 32% of voters now identify as Democrats. Down from, I believe 44%. If THAT doesn't demonstrate how disgusted voters are with the way they are being represented, I don't know what does.
But the more people who tell them they will not vote for their chosen Corporate Candidates, the better. Telling them 'we don't like him/her, but I'll hold my nose because the other guy is worse' is exactly what they want to hear. That's all that matters to them regarding the voters, their votes at election time. After that they ignore them until the next election.
They have learn that the people are supposed to have a say in all of this and people need to have a 'no tolerance' attitude towards them when it comes to who they decide to support to represent the PEOPLE. The problem is, the DNC chooses candidates who are guaranteed to represent Wall St.

(45,251 posts)I must say, though, I get that Begich and Landrieu would probably get shot, not just voted out, if they voted against oil, especially Begich.
Of course, trying to educate your constituents on an ongoing basis, instead of simply selling out their descendants when voting times comes is out of the question.

(62,325 posts)this is how they do it in the Lame Duck Congress, they allow the losers to use their remaining power to screw the voters, then they get their rewards in the Corporate World. The others will be allowed to vote for something 'populous' over the next couple of years, while the task of voting for unpopular legislation will be given to a few others.
It's quite a game they play. At the expense of the people. Time to thoroughly expose it.
