(35,678 posts)I remember the Thai sticks we got, guys coming home from Vietnam. Also the hash. The most stoned I ever got was when I ate some of that hash

(22,886 posts)Ive been smoking grass since September 1976. Thats when I moved into my first apartment in NYC where I sublet a bedroom with a private bathroom for $110 per month. The ceilings were 12 feet high and the closet had three shelves. While moving in, I found a large zip-lock bag at the back of the top shelf.
IT WAS A QUARTER POUND OF GREEN AND STICKY WEED!
I took it as a sign that it was time to start toking. Ive never looked back.
The marijuana that I would buy in the 70s and early 80s cost (chronologically) starting at $35/ounce to $250 by 2000. It was better than street shit but not as intense as the Thai stick or hash that would occasionally cross my path.
The stuff in my early career was no where near as strong as the goodies I buy today for about $350/ounce.
Mr. Chong and I will have to disagree. Still love his work, though.

(15,368 posts)smoked Thai stick ONCE and hash ONCE in the late 70's. I didn't and don't smoke to be out of control. Columbian was the best I could get in SoCal in those days. My favorite now is Lemon Kush.

(1,777 posts)the best thing. Although you could get very good weed such as Panama Red or Acapulco Gold, and hash, and later in the early 70's a seedless type was available that was very strong. I can't spell its name, but the typical Mexican weed was much weaker than what is avalible today in the stores. In 1969 a kilo cost $90, and one ounce cost $10 to $15. Today I can buy an ounce of 21% THC weed for $120.
I bought weed illegally for 52 years and will never get used to walking in a store and buying an ounce off the shelf.

(29,852 posts)black Afghani Hash in 1971 that would compete with anything out there today. Columbian Gold was some of the best weed I ever smoked and probably better than a lot of this hybrid weed we smoke today.
