(2,060 posts)...where so many don't fight for themselves, or worse yet, work against my efforts.
There are family members I don't speak to because of the racist attitudes toward immigrants. I worked hard as a union Rep. to include women and minorities in high paying skilled labor work, both electricians and plumbers.
That 45% of the Latinos voted for a guy who hates them unless he can use them and whose most of his supporters consider scum from "Shithole" countries frustrates me to no end.
I'm retired now and live in the Philippines. Trump probably considers the Philippines to be a "shithole" country, but I figure I'm lucky to live here.

(223,337 posts)And I agree, the RW media has done its best to keep the uninformed just that way - and, as we saw during Kamala Harris's Fox interview, they edit and cheat! But she's savvy enough to have called them out. The majority of the public, especially if this is the "news" they watch, is not.
Glad to see you
I watched and recommended the Colbert clip but found it rather grim how palpably alarmed Colbert seemed.

(223,337 posts)And, as Colbert said, living under a TFG presidency is definitely NOT worth a few jokes. I normally wait until all three Colbert segments are uploaded to post his show (which I have since 2017!), but since Seth Meyers expressed his sympathies, I decided to post Colbert's message to viewers early tonight. I'll post the entire show later, as usual, when all the segments are available.

(2,060 posts)who won't be affected. Their kids go to school with some children whose parents are undocumented. After all, it's not like undocumented immigrants brag about it. It goes beyond that. Trump and his supporters have disdain for minorities. I know, I heard it every day. How many times do you hear a relative or co-worker lament that "pretty soon, white people will be the minority.?"
It's like a MAGA black man. Do you really think that helps him when a white cop pulls him over.
Listen. I always cared. I demonstrated for equal rights in the 60's and against a war killing Asians. I fought for freedom for gays and union rights all of my life.
Too many of the groups I fought for are working against their own interests. I'm tired of trying to make them "see the light". I'm 72 years old with no children, a wonderful wife and a good pension living outside the US.
If your answer is that the Latinos who won't be deported supported Trump because it doesn't affect them personally, tell me why I should give a fuck?

(15,542 posts)I get the tiredness and the frustration. Everyone is overextended at this point in time and there is no relief in sight.
I was just adding a comment. I feel the Latino voters who vote Trump and are not affected are really openly sort of shitting on the Latinos who will be affected.
And any religious nut is just a nonwhite version of the fundie voter who votes against the interests of everyone but fascistic oligarchs.

(13,908 posts)It's a classic human trait that almost all of us have fallen victim to at some point in our lives.
Things are going to get very ugly once the deportations start; but they were warned. There's nothing more we can do for them.
