2. He knows nothing of American history. The Confederacy, including a majority of its eventual states,

was formed nearly a month before Lincoln took office. The war began about 5 weeks after he took office, when South Carolina shelled Fort Sumter.

Lincoln’s goal was to preserve the union. He said

If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that.

They didn’t give him a chance; they seceded, and started a war.
