HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
I'm getting tired of the wording of this Dem pol message
"But we have more work to do"
Just heard Jared Polis utter it on The Last Word. It's a worn out scripted Democratic party line that evolved from Bill Clinton's 1992 message "I feel your pain." Clinton's message was appropriate. He was running against an incumbent, GHW Bush whose negatives were fueled by the dug-in notion that Bush was out of touch. The country was crawling out of recession and Clinton's tone of empathy was the right note at the right time for a challenger. Messages of empathy are always political gold, but somewhere along the line "but we have more work to do" became the throw-away line to prove that Democrats understand that you might not be feeling great and you want more. We get it.
But Ronald Reagan didn't win reelection following a massive recession by saying "but we have more work to do." He didn't cater to people's misconceptions of the current recovery. Reagan ran on repeating what was happening. He ran on "It's morning in America."
Every time Democrats have repeated "but there's more work to do" it was actually "morning in America." What's the difference? "But there's more work to be done" dilutes the message of success. it shuts down the celebration before before the suggestion of a celebration can even set in. There's nothing wrong with leading with a positive message if you have a positive message to share.
And you can STILL demonstrate empathy, and here's a suggestion: Instead of saying "BUT we have more to do," simply change the message to "AND that's not all, this is what we can look forward too."
It's a simple rule in the art of improv. Good improv partners say "yes, and" instead of "no, but." It moves the story along.
After all this, maybe I'm just hung up on a style preference, but I think it would make all the difference in the world.
Former Marco Rubio Intern Arrested for Storming the Capitol on Jan. 6
Source: Yahoo News
A 23-year-old former Marco Rubio intern has been arrested in connection with her actions on Jan. 6. Barbara "Barby" Balmaseda was officially charged with corrupt obstruction of an official proceeding, knowingly entering and remaining in a restricted building and engaging in disorderly conduct in a Capitol building with the intent to impede a session of Congress. She is a former Florida International University student who interned for Marco Rubio between 2018 and 2019, and was also an organizer for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis 2018 campaign. When Balmaseda entered the building, broken glass was scattered on the ground, and an alarm blared near the doorway, the DOJ said in a complaint. After entering the Capitol, Balmaseda made her way toward the Crypt and pushed her way to the front of a crowd of rioters who were confronting a police line.

Help me! I'm stupid!
Please help me. Im really stupid. The election is coming and I dont know whether to vote for the guy who is going on trial for trying to conduct a coup against the U.S. or the guy who lowered the cost of pharmaceuticals for medicare patients. Im just really stupid. I dont know.
Im super stupid. I might vote for the guy who suggested taking bleach might help fight COVID or the guy who expanded NATO and restored faith in American leadership among our allies. Im stupid. I just dont know.
Im stupid in every sense of the word. Should I vote for the guy who said he was going to pass an infrastructure bill and never did in four years or the guy who passed a bipartisan infrastructure bill in under a year. You wouldnt believe how stupid I am.
I dont have words for how stupid I am. I dont know if I should vote for the guy whos been called dumb or a moron by numerous former staffers or the guy who passed the first gun safety legislation in 30 years. Im stupid like the sun is hot.
Its all so confusing. Or should I vote for Jill Stein? Im stupid.
Inmate stabbed Derek Chauvin 22 times, charged with attempted murder, prosecutors say

A federal inmate was charged Friday with attempted murder in the prison stabbing of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd.
John Turscak stabbed Chauvin 22 times in the law library at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona, with an improvised knife, federal prosecutors said. Turscak, 52, told correctional officers he wouldve killed Chauvin had they not responded so quickly, prosecutors said.

Senate GOP stages hearing walkout to protest Supreme Court-related subpoenas
Source: The Hill
Tempers exploded at a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting Thursday before Democrats voted to subpoena a major conservative donor and a prominent conservative activist linked to the Supreme Courts ethics scandals.
The Republican members of the committee stormed out of the hearing room in the Hart Building shortly before Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) called a vote on authorizing the subpoenas.
The meeting came after weeks of partisan fighting among members of the Judiciary Committee over plans to subpoena conservative donor Harlan Crow and activist Leonard Leo, the co-chairman of the Federalist Society, in response to reporting by ProPublica that revealed the two men played roles in taking conservative Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito on luxury vacations.

Youth and the 2024 Election
For those who like to pore over early polls, this one from Tufts was just released yesterday (11/29/23). It serves as a counter to a theme from a week ago with "a number of polls" showing young voters "turning on Biden" (NBC).
This Tufts poll shows a +21 advantage for Democratic candidates over maga. Amazingly, it doesn't even cite reproductive rights as key issue. Wait until Democrats campaign on it.
