"... President Trump is a disaster for humanity, he belongs behind bars, not in the Oval Office ..."

around the 5 minute mark. But the whole ten minutes and words by other elected leaders around the world are worth the time IMHO.

Trump moves to shutter environmental offices across the government ...

"The administration plans to close the Environmental Protection Agency’s environmental justice office and place 168 employees on leave, as well as remake the Justice Department’s environmental division.

... The latest shake-up came Thursday, when Trump appointees at the Environmental Protection Agency notified staff members that they plan to close the Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights and place 168 of its employees on administrative leave, according to agency officials.

The tumult has also engulfed the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division, a little-known yet crucial office tasked with defending the federal government’s environmental actions in court. Trump appointees recently announced plans to fire about 20 employees at the division, among other actions that have sent morale there plummeting, according to three people familiar with the matter who, like others interviewed for this article, spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment publicly.

And as one of her first acts after being sworn in as the nation’s 87th attorney general Wednesday, Pam Bondi rescinded former attorney general Merrick Garland’s directives on environmental justice, according to a memorandum obtained by The Washington Post. Bondi also directed the heads of all U.S. Attorney’s Offices to revoke any “memoranda, guidance, or similar directive that implement the prior administration’s ‘environmental justice’ agenda.”

Trump Media Is Moving Into the Financial Services Industry

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/06/business/trump-media-financial-services.html

"... Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of the Truth Social platform, said on Thursday that it had applied for trademark applications for a number of investment products, including several exchange-traded funds, which are similar to mutual funds.

The products, which Trump Media said would be available this year, will bear names such as “Truth.Fi Made in America ETF” and “Truth.Fi Bitcoin Plus ETF.” Trump Media applied late last year to trademark the Truth.Fi name, which it described in its application as a platform for financial custody services and trading in digital assets.

... Some of the financial products Trump Media intends to introduce may need approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission. Mr. Trump has nominated Paul Atkins, a former S.E.C. commissioner and a crypto advocate, to take the helm of the regulator.

... The company said it would be outsourcing much of the work on creating and managing the financial products to Yorkville Advisors, an investment firm in New Jersey, with which it signed a licensing agreement. Trump Media said Yorkville would also manage the process of getting any necessary regulatory approvals..."

At Guantnamo Bay detention camp, tents go up and troops await detainees

https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/2025/02/04/guantanamo-bay-immigrants-deportation-flights/

"Less than one week after President Donald Trump suggested detaining tens of thousands of migrants at Guantánamo Bay Naval Base, dozens of tents have gone up, troops have flown in from North Carolina and the first few detainees were en route Tuesday.

... Last week, Trump ordered the construction of a detention camp at Guantánamo Bay that he said could hold 30,000 people, nearly doubling ICE’s detention capacity. ICE has detention capacity in the United States for about 40,000 immigrants, with about 2,000 beds at the largest facilities in its network.

Satellite images reveal that around 59 tents measuring about 18 feet by 36 feet have been erected at the base in recent days, along with 31 smaller structures, according to a Washington Post review of imagery from Planet Labs.

... “We appreciate the partnership of the DOD in getting that up to the level that it needs to get to in order to facilitate this repatriation of people back to their countries,” Noem said in an interview with NBC News’s “Meet the Press” that aired Sunday. “So remember that Guantánamo Bay, clearly, by this president, has said that it will hold the worst of the worst, that we are going after those bad actors.”

Trump, Musk wage two-front war as donor does president's 'dirty work'

full article

https://wapo.st/4gjp27q

"After being almost inseparable between Election Day and Inauguration Day, President Donald Trump and billionaire donor Elon Musk are starting to divide and conquer.

Trump, who spent the weekend at his Florida club, left Friday amid a massive potential purge of federal prosecutors and FBI agents involved in cases against him and supporters who attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. On Saturday morning he ordered airstrikes on an Islamic State leader in Somalia and posted video of the explosions online. He golfed, then started a trade war with the United States’ neighbors and closest trading partners.

Musk, the richest man in the world — whose election spending to help Trump topped $288 million — dove into his stated mission of cutting $4 billion a day. His “Department of Government Efficiency” team took control of the Treasury Department’s payment system, federal personnel files, and the agency that handles government contracts, real estate and equipment. Officials who raised concerns about access to sensitive systems were put on leave or retired.

... The Musk team’s interest in the Treasury Department’s payment system picked up where the White House budget office left off on Wednesday, with the reversal of a government-wide directive to freeze all financial assistance. Trump officials had suspected agencies of continuing payments that they thought should have been blocked by executive orders against foreign aid and diversity programs. White House officials acknowledged that the resulting budget memo was “poorly worded” and briefly disrupted operations from Medicaid to special education and housing subsidies..."

U.S. attorney hints at prosecutions over 'targeting' of DOGE employees

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2025/02/03/martin-supports-for-musk-doge/

"Interim U.S. attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. alleged in a statement Monday that his office in D.C. had found evidence that people “committed acts that appear to violate the law in targeting” employees of Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” — an unusual statement that came without any public criminal charges.

Hours after making public a letter he wrote to Musk saying the U.S. attorney’s office would “pursue any and all legal action against anyone who impedes your work or threatens your people,” Martin posted on X that his “initial review of the evidence” had found wrongdoing and hinted that he planned to take legal action.

“We are in contact with FBI and other law-enforcement partners to proceed rapidly. We also have our prosecutors preparing,” Martin said.
Martin’s statement did not say what laws were broken or what evidence there was of illegal conduct, though Musk had earlier highlighted a string of menacing online posts about those working for DOGE. The images, posted on X by the account @reddit_lies, included users saying “Muskrat’s DOGE Henchmen have identified,” “let’s drag their necks up by a large coil of rope” and “ … doing this type of thing to the American people should result in you fearing for your life, if you get to keep it.” The Reddit thread from which the images seemed to have been drawn was deleted as of Monday evening..."

Crypto fans hoped Trump would make them legit. Then came the meme coins...

full article

"Nic Carter was biting into a cookie at the Crypto Ball, the digital asset industry’s star-studded celebration of a president who had assured them he would support the nascent sector, when he learned that Donald Trump was launching a cryptocurrency named after himself. Suddenly, the party atmosphere took on a sour note.

...Trump’s new coin, $TRUMP, is an example of what insiders call a meme coin — a digital token traded largely to capitalize on jokes or online enthusiasm rather than as a practical financial asset. It had a market capitalization of $5.8 billion late Friday, a sizable worth for a week-old project.

... Crypto tokens minted from memes can also create significant wealth, especially if the creators hold on to sizable stakes of a token that takes off. A digital firm affiliated with the Trump Organization controls 80 percent of the supply of $TRUMP tokens and appears to collect a fee on sales, igniting concerns that the president could be commingling personal business with his duties to the nation.

... A Wall Street Journal editorial Wednesday said Trump’s and his wife’s coins create “flashing-red political risks and ethical conflicts,” because entities with interests before the federal government might try to influence the president by saying they intend to buy, or have bought, $TRUMP tokens.

New Luxury Hotel in Serbia Will Be a Trump-Kushner Joint Project

full article

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/24/us/politics/trump-kushner-serbia-hotel.html?unlocked_article_code=1.r04.eECy.DE2Ncm2TysLc&smid=url-share

"More than a decade after Donald J. Trump first floated the idea of developing a Trump hotel on a government-owned site in Serbia, his family is now close to securing that dream in a complicated deal that also involves a real estate magnate from Abu Dhabi and Jared Kushner, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law.

The plan illustrates the continued ambitions of Mr. Trump’s family to forge new international deals, even as he has returned to the White House. It also reflects a diminished focus, compared with that of his first term, on avoiding the appearance of a conflict of interest associated with the overseas projects.

... The hotel deal in Serbia is one of several recently announced new outlets of the Trump brand, with other projects disclosed in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.

“Serbia is one of the fastest-growing countries in Europe, and we’re incredibly honored to be there,” Eric Trump, the president’s son, said in an interview on Friday confirming the new deal, adding that “it’s going to be fun to bring the family together.”
