LOS ANGELES A federal judge in Texas temporarily halted a plan by the Biden administration to lower late fees on credit cards to $8 that was slated to go into effect next week.
The temporary nationwide injunction imposed by Judge Mark Pittman in the Northern District of Texas is a win for the big banks and major credit card companies, which collect billions in revenue each year in late fees and were looking to stop the proposal from going into effect. It is also a win for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which led the lawsuit on behalf of the banks.

The U.S. sharply limits how much credit cards can charge you in late fees
The new regulations that were proposed by Consumer Financial Protection Bureau would have set a ceiling of $8 for most credit card late fees or require banks to show why they should charge more than $8 for such a fee.
The rule would bring the average credit card late fee down from $32. The bureau estimates banks bring in roughly $14 billion in credit card late fees a year.

He's a Trump appointed member of the Federalist Society.
Once again, the unseen hand of the Federalist Society tilts the scale of our judicial system.
Is anyone surprised?
The Federalist Society is a hate group.
They hate America.
They just wear a different kind of robe.
Now then if ....
immunity is granted to a president for all things after this courts ruling would it be illegal for a president to order the assassination of the members of the court?
Two words. Lie salad.
Former president Donald Trump is now on trial in a Manhattan courtroom, where facts are paramount, and a jury will assess the evidence and render a verdict. But as he enters and leaves that courtroom, Trump often stops before the cameras and blasts falsehoods to the court of public opinion, which can apply a different standard to Trump when it comes to facts. Heres a quick assessment of several claims he made after the conclusion of the first day of testimony in his hush money trial, in the order in which he made them.
This is a case where you pay a lawyer, hes a lawyer, and they call it a legal expense. Thats the exact term they use, legal expenses, in the books. And another thing that wasnt even said was, we never even deducted it as a tax deduction.
Michael Cohen is a lawyer, represented a lot of people over the years. Im not the only one, and he wasnt very good in a lot of ways in terms of misrepresentation.
He [Cohen] got in trouble for things that had nothing to do with me.
Very importantly, why didnt the Federal Elections [Commission] do anything? Federal Elections took a total pass on it. They said essentially nothing was done wrong or they would have done something about it. Theyre tough.
Actually, if you read their letter, they couldnt even believe it. They were incredulous.

Ladies and gentlemen the unbridled id of "the Donald."
Ronna McDaniel got fired by Fake News NBC. She only lasted two days, and this after McDaniel went out of her way to say what they wanted to hear. It leaves her in a very strange place, its called NEVER NEVERLAND, and its not a place you want to be.

Bernie's 4 day week is not off base.
A Four-Day Workweek Reduces Stress without Hurting Productivity
The results of a test involving dozens of employers and thousands of employees suggests that working only four days instead of five is good for workers well-beingwithout hurting companies. Working four days instead of fivewith the same payleads to improved well-being among employees without damaging the companys productivity. Thats the recently reported result of a four-day workweek test that ran for six months, from June to December 2022, and involved a total of 61 U.K. companies with a combined workforce of about 2,900 employees.
During the COVID pandemic, many workers experienced increased stress and even burnout, a state of exhaustion that can make it difficult to meet work goals. Its a very huge issue, says independent organizational psychologist and consultant Michael Leiter, who was not involved in the new report. You see it particularly in health care, where I do a lot of my work. Its making it much more difficult to hold on to talented people. He explains that stress in the workplace makes it difficult for companies in health care and many other fields to recruit new hires and keep existing employees. But a greater awareness of burnout and related issues can have a positive effect, Leiter adds. People are demanding more changes in how the work is organized, he says.
That demand is what led the independent research organization Autonomy, in conjunction with the advocacy groups 4 Day Week Global and 4 Day Week Campaign and researchers at the University of Cambridge, Boston College and other institutions, to publish a report on what happens when companies reduce the number of days in a workweek. According to surveys of participants, 71 percent of respondents reported lower levels of burnout, and 39 percent reported being less stressed than when they began the test. Companies experienced 65 percent fewer sick and personal days. And the number of resignations dropped by more than half, compared with an earlier six-month period. Despite employees logging fewer work hours, companies revenues barely changed during the test period. In fact, they actually increased slightly, by 1.4 percent on average.

Republican opponent of US aid to Ukraine brings his case to an international conference
MUNICH (AP) A Republican opponent of new U.S. funding for Ukraine argued at an international security conference Sunday that the package stuck in Congress wouldnt fundamentally change the reality on the ground and that Russia has an incentive to negotiate peace.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and others have advocated passage of the $60 billion in aid at the Munich Security Conference, which coincided with Ukraine withdrawing troops from the eastern city of Avdiivka after months of intense combat.
But Sen. JD Vance, an Ohio Republican and ally of Donald Trump, said the problem in Ukraine
is that theres no clear end point and that the U.S. doesnt make enough weapons to support wars in eastern Europe, the Middle East and potentially a contingency in East Asia.

I don't know where to begin, but he's putting a dangerous spin on "useful idiot."
He suggests that we have to keep all of our weapons because we might need to go to war with pretty much the whole world.
He's like Albania level crazy.
MSNBC's Katy Tur asked a question about Trump ... and she's (still) getting roasted for it:
With news breaking on Friday that former President Donald Trump had been hammered with a $364 million penalty in a civil case alleging financial fraud, MSNBC host Katy Tur tossed a softball question to her panel.
Is this fair, to go after Donald Trump like this in this environment? she asked New York Times reporter Susan Craig and the networks legal analyst Lisa Rubin.
Wait, did we say, softball?
We meant live grenade.
Even though Tur was trying to solicit and answer for the MAGA supporters and others who believe the civil and criminal cases against Trump are witch hunts that are designed to torpedo his bid for another term as President, liberal viewers didnt like the sympathetic framing for a candidate they believe is putting American democracy at risk. And, oh, by the way, Trump was found liable.
Even tennis icon Martina Navratilova went for the jugular: Get rid of Katy TUR, she is awful.
