Judge Who Pushed to Delay Donald Trump Trial Raises Eyebrows

[In a decision on Monday, December 18, the three-judge Washington federal appeals court said it would hear oral arguments in Trump's case on January 9.
But at the bottom of the order, it noted that Judge Karen LeCraft Henderson had sought a full Supreme Court judgment before deciding the case. Henderson has ruled in favor of Trump in a number of previous decisions.
"Judge Henderson would stay any further action by this court until the United States Supreme Court has taken final action on the Government's petition for certiorari before judgment now pending before it in this case," Monday's order states.
Had Henderson succeeded, it would have delayed Trump's case even further, as the Supreme Court would first have had to make a ruling, and then the case would have been passed down to the appeals court for decision.]

Israel's Netanyahu rejects any Palestinian sovereignty post-war, rebuffing Biden
JERUSALEM — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday that he "will not compromise on full Israeli control" over Gaza and that "this is contrary to a Palestinian state," rejecting U.S. President Joe Biden's suggestion that creative solutions could bridge wide gaps between the leaders' views on Palestinian statehood.
In a sign of the pressures Netanyahu's government faces at home, thousands of Israelis protested in Tel Aviv calling for new elections, and others demonstrated outside the prime minister's house, joining families of the more than 100 remaining hostages held by Hamas and other militants. They fear that Israel's military activity further endangers hostages' lives.

Senate Republican says US needs to accept Ukraine will 'cede some territory' to Russia
The Biden administration warned earlier this month that the U.S. will run out of money for Ukraine without congressional action by the end of the year.
Vance argued Sunday that no one believed Ukraine was going to win the war, explaining that the main focus should be bringing an end to the fighting and killing in the region.
“But on the Ukraine question in particular, everybody knows, everybody with a brain in their head, Jake, knows this was always going to end in negotiation,” Vance said. “The idea that Ukraine was going to throw Russia back to the 1991 border was preposterous; nobody actually believed it.”
“So what we’re saying to the president and really to the entire world is you need to articulate what the ambition is,” he said. “What is $61 billion going to accomplish that $100 billion hasn’t?”

Elon Musk's X sues Media Matters over antisemitism analysis.
Elon Musk's social media platform X has sued a left-leaning pressure group that accused the site of allowing antisemitic posts next to advertising.
X's lawsuit alleges that Media Matters for America "manipulated" data in an attempt to "destroy" the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Firms including Apple, Disney, IBM and Comcast have paused adverts on X since the watchdog released its analysis.
After Mr Musk threatened the lawsuit, Media Matters called him a bully.
The advocacy group said last week that ads had appeared on X alongside posts supporting Nazism, such as Hitler quotes and Holocaust denial.

And voters may need to keep those voter-protections handy, given the continuing or threatened antics of the General Assembly:
At a very minimum, perhaps members of the state Senate and Ohio House of Representatives should be required to pass a proficiency test on the state constitution before being sworn in as legislators for two years (Ohio’s House) or four (the state Senate)."

Tesla will sue you for $50,000 if you try to resell your Cybertruck in the first year.
Customers set to receive the first Tesla Cybertrucks this November can't resell their vehicles during the first year, according to Tesla's terms and conditions.
Tesla added a section titled "For Cybertruck Only" to its Motor Vehicle Order Agreement, which laid out the new rules.
"You agree that you will not sell or otherwise attempt to sell the Vehicle within the first year following your Vehicle's delivery date," it says.
"Tesla may seek injunctive relief to prevent the transfer of title of the Vehicle or demand liquidated damages from you in the amount of $50,000 or the value received as consideration for the sale or transfer, whichever is greater. Tesla may also refuse to sell you any future vehicles," it says.

A pod of orcas has sunk a yacht in the Strait of Gibraltar
For 45 minutes, the crew of the Grazie Mamma felt like they were under attack from below. A pod of orcas had zeroed in on the yacht's rudder as it made its way through the Strait of Gibraltar last week, and rammed it repeatedly, "causing major damage and leakage," according to the company that operated the boat. Rescuers were able to save the crew and return them safely to port in Tanger-Med on the coast of Morocco.
Their vessel, though, sank into the sea.

Starbucks announces 3% pay raises and new benefits for non-union baristas
"Once again, Starbucks is responding to our bargaining demands, but they're implementing them in nonunion stores and denying these new benefits to workers in stores that are unionizing or already voted to join the union,” Starbucks Workers United member Alex Yeager said in a statement. “This is against the law, and there are already several consolidated charges from the National Labor Relations Board for benefit packages Starbucks has denied union workers--such as credit card tipping--since we started our campaign.”
