By this time tomorrow, Texas will have more outages than Florida. No hurricane there, just Texas being Texas.

US couple blocked from suing Uber after crash say daughter agreed to Uber Eats terms

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/oct/01/new-jersey-uber-eats-car-crash

A New Jersey couple seriously injured when their Uber driver ran a red light and collided with another car has lost a bid to take legal action against the company in court.

John McGinty and Georgia McGinty argue Uber is enforcing an arbitration agreement after their daughter clicked “agree” when presented with updated terms and conditions while ordering food via her mom’s Uber Eats account.

Uber says that Georgia McGinty’s account on its app received a “full-screen pop-up” on several occasions, which required the user to accept updated terms of use before accessing its service.

It comes amid heightened scrutiny around the terms of leading tech platforms. This summer Disney faced a backlash after its attorneys initially argued the terms and conditions a widower agreed to on the Disney+ streaming service protected the company from a wrongful death lawsuit he brought over his wife’s death after eating at a Disney World restaurant.

Biblical Scholars Say Mary Stole Idea For Jesus' Baby Name From Friend

ROME—In a discovery shedding light on the earliest days of God’s only son, biblical scholars revealed Wednesday that Mary stole the idea for Jesus’ baby name from her best friend. “According to some newly unearthed records from the time, we can confirm with some amount of certainty that Mary actually got the idea for the name ‘Jesus’ from her friend Tabitha, who was pregnant at the same time she was,” said biblical archaeologist Giovanni Agosti, describing a detailed account of the incident that is suspected to have been written by Tabitha due to its repeated descriptions of Mary as a “total bitch” who ruined a perfectly enjoyable baby shower, all because she couldn’t come up with a decent baby name on her own. “From what we can tell from this tablet, this caused a lot of drama in Mary and Tabitha’s friend group. It didn’t help that when Tabitha ended up going with Thaddeus, her second-choice name for her newborn, Mary allegedly remarked that the name was cliché. It took a toll on their friendship, but ultimately Tabitha is the reason we know Christ by the name Jesus.” At press time, another tablet was reportedly uncovered that describes Mary and Tabitha’s disastrous joint gender-reveal party, which ended with a fistfight between the two pregnant women.

'I want you to kiss it': Gary Condit's son claims state senator (R) made him 'pleasure' her in car, hurting his back.

https://lawandcrime.com/lawsuit/i-want-you-to-kiss-it-gary-condits-son-claims-state-senator-made-him-pleasure-her-in-car-hurting-his-back-in-confined-space/

Nearly one month after a California state senator switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party, her former campaign manager and chief of staff, who happens to be the son of Gary Condit, has filed a sexual harassment, discrimination, and unlawful retaliation lawsuit claiming that his back was injured while twisting and contorting in the “confined space” of a car after Marie Alvarado-Gil demanded oral sex during work-related travel together.

The lawsuit filed in Sacramento Superior Court against Alvarado-Gil and the California State Senate last Thursday by Chad Condit claimed that his former boss, married three times, was aware that he was the son of Gary Condit — the former Democratic congressman from California remembered for an alleged affair and the subsequent disappearance and death of Bureau of Prisons intern Chandra Levy, for which another man was convicted, granted a new trial, and then deported after charges were dropped. Alvarado-Gil allegedly made comments that she “assumed PLAINTIFF would be like his father—insinuating that he should be open to a sexual relationship with her.”

Chad Condit, who said he “was” married at the time, alleged that the state senator began grooming him after he was hired in December 2022, talked about “sex and using the drug, ayahuasca, and taking gummies,” claimed her third husband cheated on her, giving her “a lifetime free pass (to cheat),” and that she even named her frog after him.

Starting in March 2023, the lawsuit claimed, Alvarado-Gil hired Condit’s wife to work on her campaign, started “going to the same beautician” as his wife, and asked him “what his feelings are about ‘throuples’ and whether PLAINTIFF thought his wife would be into that.”

I see the Republicans are taking our best and brightest. I am not sure naming a frog after a grown married man is really grooming, however.

Fetching in cats is more common than previously thought, researchers find

https://phys.org/news/2024-09-cats-common-previously-thought.html

Although it is more common in dogs, 4 in 10 pet cats also choose to play fetch with their owners, report Mikel Delgado from Purdue University, US, and colleagues in PLOS ONE.

Dogs are well-known for playing fetch, but some cats also engage in fetching behavior. Fetching may have its roots in the natural hunting behaviors of cats and dogs, but how it was shaped by domestication into the playful actions we see in our pets today is unclear. Researchers analyzed data from online surveys of cat (Felis catus) and dog (Canis familiaris) owners conducted between 2015 and 2023, which included questions about the fetching behavior of their pets.

Among over 8,000 cat owners surveyed, 41% reported that their cat would sometimes, frequently or always retrieve toys or objects that they threw—significantly higher than previous estimates. They found that cats are more likely to display fetching behavior if they are generally more active and playful, and if they live indoors.

Although cats of all breeds sometimes engage in fetching, it is more common in Burmese, Siamese, and Tonkinese cats. These breeds originated from cats that were taken to the Far East early during cat domestication, making them genetically distinct from other cat breeds.
