In reply to the discussion: As a Democrat, Do you own a gun? [View all]Haggard Celine
(17,141 posts)33. Never had one, but not ruling it out.
I wish there were a lot fewer guns in this country, but at the same time I understand why people would want or need one. My friends encourage me to get one because I live alone and my neighborhood isn't the best in town. But I feel safe here, not afraid to go anywhere around here. With the way things are going in this country, though, I'm beginning to think that owning a gun would be the best thing for my safety. If I get one, it'll be something easy to handle and shoot, like a .22, maybe.

I have no political reason for not having a gun-- it has just never come up.

I ran the numbers. Statistically I decided my family would be less safe with a gun around

Nope: there are too many people I'd like to see lined up against a wall and shot.

Interesting that the comments are predominately negative, but the poll is positive

Can't get one without jumping through a lot of very necessary hoops here.

Don't forget to factor in the multiple firearms owned by a typical US gun-owner

I'd suggest a compressed-air rifle for your needs. No gunpowder, fine for small/medium game. n/t
