In reply to the discussion: After spending time with my mother who is back in the hospital the most amazing thing happened. [View all]I would like to say that I wish the best for your mom and your family, sounds like a tough row to hoe, been through it with dear friends and wouldn't wish such agony on anyone.
With regard to your wildlife experience, that's a wonderful connection to make, and see how it altered your perceptions and thought process? It was a good thing, peaceful and enlightening.
I have the amazing good fortune to live in a wildlife rich location where there are often more wild animals than people depending on the season. I have learned that there is a way of looking at most animals that expresses to them that you mean them no harm. I have found that it works with deer, elk, cats, weasels, coyotes, some dogs, even eagles. I call it the non-aggressive stance and it shows the animal that you mean them no harm. If you have other intentions, they will know it and flee (at least that's what I have seen inmost cases when encounters include other people). If you try this: look calmly at the animal, tilt you head to one side and blink slowly. They see that you are not likely to be a predator as those blink quickly and have an aggressive posture in most cases. I have tried this with numerous species over many years and it works in almost every case regardless of the animals I encounter. And many animals will remember particular people over time too. Maybe the deer have seen you before as they can see very long distances and can also see you through a window, like when you're in a house, even when they are several yards away.
It is a wonderful feeling whenever I have such an experience. I wish more people could have these, it might help them become more aware of the beauty of nature and try to be more cautious about its destruction.
Thanks for sharing that, a spiritually charged moment whether you subscribe to an organized religion or not.
