up a longish private dirt road. They built their log home on acreage, the front is stilt, the back butts right up against a forested mountain. Before hearing from her I was sleepless, then so relieved no trees came down on their house.
Because of power, have had but limited texts and no voice to get more detailed info.
Edit to add: she texted me as soon as she could, but they were so isolated all she knew was that it was bad in Asheville. The innocence of the text was heartbreaking, all she would be learning. Were native to the area, she and hubs active hikers, very locally involved, know the mountains blindfolded. Last year this time I was there for a month and we were hiking together.

Bootstraps are for the "other" people. My guess is half the MAGAs are on SS, welfare, Medicaid. But only for them, see.
