Even Trump has all but admitted that he didn’t think he could get away with it.

Not that I think any of these nominees are Trump’s sole personal doing. Bannon, Miller, the usual Trump manipulators who put all the ideas and names in his mouth, these are the ones who are the origins of the nominees. Trump probably barely knew the difference between Matt Gaetz and Bill Gates, and would have been happy naming either one.
