Women who don't fit traditional feminine stereotypes have had their right to use women's bathrooms for decades.

Just because it is more publicized now doesn't mean it has not been a significant issue in the lives of gender-non-conforming women for 4 decades that I am personally aware of - and I doubt the experience is limited to the tube in which I have been aware of it.
