The GOP Wants to Deport the Bishop Who Begged Trump for Mercy (She’s from New Jersey)
The Reign of Morons is off to a swingin’ start.

Rep. Mike Collins of Georgia is very much a fathead. So Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde used her time in the pulpit on Tuesday to remind El Caudillo del Mar-a-Lago what a complete fcking heathen he is, saying, in part:

Let me make one final plea. Mr. President, millions have put their trust in you, and as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives. And the people, the people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meatpacking plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals, they, they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors. They are faithful members of our churches and mosques, synagogues, gurdwara, and temples. I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away and that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here. Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger. For we were all once strangers in this land. May God grant us the strength and courage to honor the dignity of every human being, to speak the truth to one another in love and walk humbly with each other and our God, for the good of all people, good of all people in this nation and the world. Amen.

Beside himself, which is one too many, Rep. Collins immediately leaped into action. Well, actually, he leaped onto Xwitter and demanded that the good bishop be deported ... apparently to New Jersey, whence she came. From The Hill:

“The person giving this sermon should be added to the deportation list,” Collins wrote in a post on the social platform X, alongside a clip of Budde’s comments.
I think the Reign of Morons is off to a swingin’ start, don’t you?

The sheer pettiness was to be expected, but it is still startling to watch in action. I mean, taking Mark Milley’s portrait down at the Pentagon is pure, middle school Stalinism. But gestures like this illustrate a deeper truth—the lust for vengeance never will be far from the mind of the new president. If he’s willing to take down the portrait of a respected general, what will he do to people he really despises once he gets the Gauleiters in place at the Department of Justice? He also lifted Secret Service protection from John Bolton, for whom I have no use but whom the Iranians would dearly love to ice. Tell me again that former President Biden’s preemptive pardons aren’t warranted.
