11. Can anyone tell me who the last HHS secretary was that was either an MD or a scientist?

That was one complaint about Kennedy I heard repeatedly, that he wasn't a doctor or scientist or someone with health care experience. That got me to thinking who was the last HHS secretary with those qualifications.

The only three previous HHS secretaries that I can name off the top of my head-- Xavier Becerra, Kathleen Sebellius, and Donna Shalala -- were either a lawyer or a politician or both, or an academic.

Has any HHS secretary had any medical or scientific background?
