I think that she pulled out all the stops at the end - the protagonist asks permission of her abuser to commit suicide, and he consents. I think that is really sick. I know that some people defend Story of O with the argument that the protagonist chooses to be dominated. I don't buy it. It's the same old same old. Women are oppressed systematically and when they go along with the oppression in an effort to gain some small benefit or a little bit of control they are praised for exercising their "choice." That's no choice, imo. I think that the premise of the book is sick.
