who had heartworms. (This was while we were just dating.) I believe she was about six years old at the time. She had to stay at the vet for several days of treatment, maybe five (?), then came home and was fine. She was a very high energy dog so I think that's why keeping her contained at the vet was the path they took. She went on for a long time after that, climbing high fences to escape with her daughter and raid garbage bins behind all kinds of restaurants! It wasn't ever hard to find them.
