certain stones, like sandstone, are already known to record residual sounds and play them back seemingly randomly later.

going through the area repeatedly has no bearing on whether you should see it again, though. living in California i can assure you that we will have more earthquakes. but as often as i go through my hometown roads, they still seem to occur randomly.

to use a cute parallelism, something can be predictably frequent without actually being frequently predictable (in our reference of time), let alone predictable when frequented.
