(18,318 posts)to win a national campaign. They aren't willing to do the drydock-scale overhaul that will make the Party viable everywhere. Also IMO, it is afraid to change because it would mean taking clear, bright-line stands and policy positions which might offend NOT the populace, but instead the corporations and financiers with which the Beltway has made peace over the last 40 years. Why is there a Third Way? Or a No Labels? Because the Party wants to play dodge ball with an outfit (the GOP) which has no problem labeling themselves -- and Democrats, and have been doing so for decades, and to such an extent that they virtually own over 30 states. I tire so much of hearing people say the "Deplorables" should come to us instead of the other way around. I tire also of the idea that we shouldn't appeal to millions because they voted for a racist or misogynist, as if there are not many here in DU that have not been accused of those transgressions. You attract people with an open door and plans for betterment which are beneficial to all. Telling them to pass through an airport-like ideology scanner while grim-faced Party bureaucrats tap their feet impatiently is to turn the notion of a political party on its head!
