Which do you trust more: Polls or Allan Lichtman's Keys?

Me? I trust Allan Lichtman, the American University historian who's been called the "Nostradamus of presidential election predictions," because of his near-perfect 40-year track record.

The confidence is rooted in Mr. Lichtman’s simple, history-driven model, which tunes out polls and pollsters and instead focuses on 13 true-or-false questions that he says hold the “keys” to the White House.

Allan Lichtman predicts Kamala Harris is going to win.

GOTV.

The biggest threat to our democracy.

The biggest threat to our democracy is not Trump, Project 2025, MAGA, SCOTUS, the Heritage Foundation, Leonard Leo, voter suppression, racial gerrymandering, or even political coups.

The biggest threat to our democracy are

LOW-INFORMATION SWING STATE VOTERS.

In my opinion.

To a Project 2025 loving FASCIST,

even Karl Rove, Alberto Gonzales, and Dick Cheney are the Radical Left.

Just sayin'.

Trump is now claiming that he'll end taxes on overtime pay.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/trump-says-will-end-taxes-overtime-pay-first-post-debate-rally-rcna170948

Trump's just attempting to dupe low-information and naive working class voters into voting for him. In his desperation, he'll promise anything to manipulate people into voting for him because he knows there are millions of ignorant and gullible people out there.

It's been widely reported that Project 2025 advocates giving employers the legal means to limit or even eliminate overtime pay.

The greatest statement by a political figure in world history.

Former president and future inmate Donald J. Trump:

"They're eating the dogs, the people that came in, they're eating the cats," Trump said during an answer to a question about immigration. "They're eating the pets of the people that live there, and this is what's happening in our country, and it's a shame."

Trump's answer was among the most extraordinary of the first 30 minutes of the debate: a former U.S. president spreading an internet rumor — one labeled by some of his critics as racist — in front of an audience of millions of Americans. The comment illustrated the rapid spread of misinformation in today's media ecosystem.

DU - Democrats need to flip FOUR seats to win back the House.

If you can, please consider making a monthly donation to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) to help boost our chances of winning back the U.S. House. House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries sounds like delightful music to my ears.

Every dollar counts, even $5 per month. It adds up fast when a whole lot of Democrats across the country are making donations to the DCCC:

In the marathon that is an election year, Democrats are winning the cash dash — a reality that is putting pressure on House Republicans as they look to expand their majority in the lower chamber come November. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) raised $17.6 million in July — the month President Biden dropped out of the race and threw his support behind Vice President Harris — bringing the group’s total haul for the cycle to a record $228.4 million. The campaign arm has $92 million cash on hand.

The House GOP’s campaign arm, meanwhile, raked in $11.7 million in July, raising the total accumulated this cycle to $173.4 million. The group has $73.3 million cash on hand. Republicans knew they were in a tough situation even before Tuesday’s filing deadline.

Here's how the DCCC puts our donations to work:

Staff and volunteers for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee knocked on more than 377,700 doors in August — more than in May, June and July combined, according to the committee. The DCCC said 104,000 of those were in the last week of August alone, the most of any week this cycle. House Democrats’ campaign arm also made 845,500 phone calls in August, similarly surpassing the total for the previous three months.

Before starting this thread, I initiated a monthly donation to the DCCC via Act Blue Express.

Project 2025 - More Clarity on What It's About.

All DUers have heard about Project 2025 and know that it'll end our democracy if implemented.

Sometimes, it's good to occasionally look into it further to deepen one's understanding of it.

I found a website that explains Project 2025 better than most of the ones I've personally run across.

Here are some things about Project 2025 that all DUers should always keep firmly in mind:

(Note: personally I had problems using my Chrome browser to properly view the referenced website. I had to switch to my Firefox browser.)

1. Beyond Trump: Project 2025 Aims for the Next GOP Presidency

It’s not just about Trump. Project 2025 specifically states that it does not depend on a Trump victory in November; it’s explicitly directed at “the next conservative” or “the next GOP” occupant of the White House. Since its donors and partner organizations have achieved effective control of the Republican Party through purging moderates and promoting their supporters, it’s unlikely that any Republican candidate can successfully run without their support.

Translation: Cumulatively, these organizations control massive voting blocs, concentrated among evangelical Christians, and coordinate extensive and carefully-orchestrated disinformation media that spreads, most concerningly, across battleground states.

The above is the type of information that the Harris-Walz campaign should continually shine a spotlight on.

2. Project 2025: A Legacy of Conservative Agendas and Powerful Funding Networks

It’s not new. Project 2025 builds on a longstanding series of “Mandates for Leadership,” going back to the Reagan Administration in 1981. The authors claim that Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump both implemented over half of their previous recommendations. Thanks to their inroads in federal court appointments during the Trump Administration, they are now in the position to implement far more.

Translation: The Project 2025 partner organizations have been putting the squeeze on every Republican president since Reagan, and have often been disappointed. They met with unprecedented success with Donald Trump, and have no intention of giving up their advantage.

The website even mentions the heavy involvement of the Koch Network and Leonard Leo.

It's definitely worth checking out to be more informed.

Mark my words, we will annihilate them at the ballot box in November.

DU, what do you think about this idea - 'Cross Promotion' for Our Democratic Politicians.

In marketing, cross promotion is the use of one product or service to promote another. That same concept could be applied to political campaigns.

Since the presidency and congress are so interdependent in order to pass and enact legislation, wouldn't it be effective if Harris-Walz and congressional Democrats start "cross promoting" one another in every political ad between now and November to influence voters to vote a straight Democratic ticket?

These political ads would then work synergistically, be more powerful, be more effective, and be more cost-effective. Also, these ads would repeat the concept of voting a straight Democratic ticket over and over until it gets completely embedded into the consciousness of voters, making it more likely that they'll in fact vote a straight Democratic ticket.

So, for example, every single Kamala Harris political ad could end with something like this: "Please vote a straight Democratic ticket so that Republicans in Congress can't block the policies that you want" or "Please vote for Democrats up and down the ballot so that Democrats can pass and sign into law the policies that you want." (It could be worded better, but you get the point.)

And every single political ad for a Democratic U.S. Representative or U.S. Senator could state at the end: "Please vote for Democrats up and down the ballot so that congressional Democrats can pass the legislation that you want and Kamala Harris can sign it into law."

The bottom line is that every single dollar spent on every single political ad by every single Democratic politician would be promoting all Democratic politicians thus increasing all of their chances of winning in November.

This approach would likely greatly reduce the number of voters who vote a mixed ticket.

I'm trusting that Kamala Harris has a plan to keep House Speaker Mike Johnson under control in November.

In my opinion, bad though Kevin McCarthy was as House Speaker (and he was AWFUL), House Democrats helping Mike Johnson get that position was bat-shit crazy.

I happened to be reading an online article a few minutes ago that fully illustrates this point:

"Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is not just a casual election denier, a cynical pol winking at the MAGA mob. Johnson was the congressional architect of the effort to overturn the 2020 election, advocating an interpretation of the Constitution so outlandish that not even the Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority could swallow it. Indeed, that was his only significant accomplishment in his few years in Congress. Johnson is a sharp-witted, bespectacled, smiling extremist."

THAT'S who House Democrats helped get that position.

"Johnson was the legal mastermind behind the doomed push to decertify the election results in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. He pressured colleagues to sign on to his effort, warning them ominously that Trump would be 'anxiously awaiting the final list to review.'

When Texas sued Pennsylvania, claiming it had not enforced its own election laws, the U.S. Supreme Court refused even to hear the case, with only one dissent. Johnson organized 125 colleagues to urge the Court to act. It would have upended elections in the United States. "

That Mike Johnson wasn't indicted boggles the mind. I guess it's perfectly acceptable to dismantle our democracy as long as you're doing it in an 'official' capacity and not storming the U.S. Capitol waving Nazi and Confederate flags. Unbelievable.

"Mild-mannered Mike Johnson is a no-holds-barred, hold-on-to-power-at-all-costs election denier.

"How could this matter in 2024? It seems clear the election deniers won’t wait until the actual election this time. Their bid to subvert the results will start well before ballots are cast and counted. Johnson may preside over key proceedings. The bipartisan Electoral Count Reform Act, enacted last year, should curb his ability to make mischief. But one nightmare scenario is that a third-party run (such as one by No Labels) sends the proceedings to the House, where every state gets one vote, an outcome that last happened in 1837. More broadly, the most powerful Republican in Congress will be someone who has shown himself willing to subvert American democracy. He would be, in effect, a spokesperson for the end of American democracy.

In 2020, the institutions held. In 2024, Mike Johnson will hold the gavel. That should scare us all."

Is THIS why Jill Stein is so bent on running again? Is Vladimir Putin pulling her strings?

I'm trusting that Kamala Harris has a plan to reign this in.
